Peeked in on a webinar this morning from MarketingCloud called Social Best Practices for Marketing in the Cloud. I was doing some B2B research and saw one of the folks at Magento was a presenter, so I signed up.   

I didnt know what I was going to get, exactly. The term "cloud" is thrown around in marketing-speak so much of late that you have to dig a bit to find out what "cloud" people are referring to. Cloud e-commerce, cloud marketing, tag clouds? 

(I was hoping that tag clouding didn't enter into it; I happen to agree with Jeffrey Zeldman, who postulated 5 years ago that tag clouds were the UI style equivalent of the mullet. Unfortunately tag clouds are still going strong, so much so that in a year or two they'll probably come full circle and have serious retro nostalgia appeal).

Have been going through a dozen or so articles from StorefrontBacktalk, an e-com news and opinion site founded by veteran marcom exec and journalist Evan Schulman. It's pretty e-com tech focused, but the writing is sharp and manages to be a more intriguing read than a lot of straight e-marketing blogs/sites. Some good pieces there like what a crappy job the Obama's new Cyber Coordinator has, tales of breaches in the security of your favorite retail websites, and a bizarre article about the growing trend for spoiled kids to bring their parents to interviews when they are vying for entry-level tech jobs.

Since the start of the year I've done a lot of hacking through the jungle of the existing social networks, learning, experimenting, listening and assessing what's out there. Now that all my web community dots are more or less connected I'm ready to turn my attention to creating content of my own again. The focus of this blog will primarily be e-marketing from the perspective of a career creative, but will also touch on topics concerning: e-mail, e-commerce, branding, UI design, web development, online communities, online content creation and integration of traditional marketing campaigns (print, outdoor, WOM) with digital media.
